Record Keeping Basics - Paper or Computer

Carol Tekavec CDA RDH

This course details recommended documentation for thorough record keeping.  Appropriate records are vital for supporting diagnostic and treatment decisions, as well as to prevent payment problems with dental benefit plans.  Malpractice avoidance, and “utilization review” issues (where insurance carriers want money back) can only be mediated with detailed records, either paper or computer. Get specific information on:

  • Evaluating your current records
  • Key elements for an adequate chart- whether paper or computer
  • Radiographs and medical histories
  • Progress note essentials
  • Informed Consent
  • Protecting your office from "pay-back" requests

You will receive a sample paper chart that fulfills recommended record keeping requirements.
