Record Keeping Basics - Paper or Computer

Carol Tekavec CDA RDH

This course details recommended documentation techniques for thorough record keeping.  Appropriate records are vital for supporting diagnostic and treatment decisions, as well as to prevent payment problems with dental benefit plans.  Malpractice and adverse insurance company “utilization review” problems can also be mediated with thorough and detailed records, either paper or computer.  This program covers specific information on evaluating your existing records, radiographic guidelines, medical histories, progress notes, and informed consent.

You will learn:

  • How to evaluate your own records.
  • How record keeping at the patient’s first appointment relates to patient acceptance of total treatment.
  • How the dental chart can support an office faced with insurance carrier requests for “pay-back” on alleged over-payments.
  • The key elements for an adequate chart, whether paper or computer.

You will receive a sample paper chart that fulfills recommended record keeping requirements.

Recommended for:  Dentists, Hygienists, Administrative Staff, Assistants
